Battery Operated: A battery operated self-contained motorization system is one option that is easily installed. Use a remote control for point and click operation of the window treatments. AA Batteries typically last one to one and a half years, C batteries last approximately 5 years; both are easily changed as needed.
DC Powered (low voltage): The DC power supplied motorization systems plug into any standard household outlet. There would be a wire that runs from the motor of the shade to the outlet. Or, for a more visually appealing variation, connect the electricity inside the wall and hide the cord within the drywall.
Solar Powered: A solar powered blind is powered by a battery charged solar cells (charged by the sun) and is often the best choice when the window covering is mounted in a high window where changing the batteries are difficult. With this option however, you must make sure that the location of the blind receives enough sunlight.
No matter the electricity source (battery, DC, or solar) for the motorization, it can be operated with wireless technology. Options for controls are remote controls, wall switches, or the hub if you’re using an app/smartphone. Regardless, the technology is smart enough to not have to be pointed directly at the receiver on the motorized window coverings in order to adjust them.
Communication signals from wireless devices in very large spaces may not always reach the intended receiver. This range limitation is similar to trying to use a garage door opener from five blocks away. For applications that require the greatest reliability, hard-wired systems are recommended.
